கேரளச் சிறையில் தண்டனை அனுபவித்து வரும் குற்றவாளிகளில் பலர் சிறையில் இருந்தபடியே பேஸ்புக் வளைதளத்தைப் பயன்படுத்தி வருவது அம்பலமாகியுள்ளது.
டி.பி.சந்திரசேகரன் கொலை வழக்கில் கைதாகி கோழிக்கோடு சிறையில் உள்ள குற்றவாளி ஒருவர் தனது பேஸ்புக் பக்கத்தில் தொடர்ந்து கருத்துக்கள் வெளியிட்டு வருவது சமீபத்தில் கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்டது.
இதனைத் தொடர்ந்து இதுகுறித்து நடத்தப்பட்ட விசாரணையில், சிறையில் வாழும் பெரும்பாலான அரசியல் பிண்ணனி கொண்ட குற்றவாளிகள் சொகுசு வாழ்க்கை வாழ்ந்து வருவது வெட்ட வெளிச்சமாகியுள்ளது.
இதுகுறித்து கேரளத் தொலைக்காட்சி ஒன்று சிறப்புப் புலனாய்வு செய்து செய்தி வெளியிட்டுள்ளது. அதில் சிறையில் உள்ள கைதிகள் சிலரின் பேஸ்புக் பக்கங்கள் குறித்து ஆய்வு செய்யப்பட்டது.
அதன்படி குற்றவாளி ஒருவர் நேற்று மாலை கூட சிறையில் இருந்தவண்ணம் தனது பேஸ்புக் பக்கத்தை அப்டேட் செய்துள்ளதும் மேலும் சிலர் தங்களது நண்பர்களின் கருத்துக்களுக்கு லைக்ஸ், ஷேரிங் கொடுத்துள்ளதும் தெரியவந்துள்ளது.
மேலும் ஒரு கைதியின் பேஸ்புக் பக்கத்தில் குற்றவாளி தனது நண்பரின் விருப்பத்திற்கேற்ப சிவப்பு டி-சர்ட் அணிந்து போஸ் கொடுத்துள்ளார். மற்றொரு கைதியோ வாயில் சிகரெட்டுடனும், கூலிங் கிளாஸ் அணிந்தும் விதவிதமாக புகைப்படங்களை பதிவேற்றம் செய்துள்ளார்.
இவ்வாறு சிறையில் அலம்பல் செய்துள்ள கைதிகள் அரசியல் பின்புலம் உள்ள குற்றங்களில் சம்பந்தம் உள்ளவர்கள் என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

This might be a classic case of people landing in a fix thanks to the lack of knowledge of technology – and more importantly, Facebook’s privacy options. In the southern Indian state of Kerala, a bunch of jail inmates who were behind bars for being key conspirators in a murder case were caught freely using Facebook and smartphones, allegedly with the connivance of jail authorities.
The people in jail were accused of being the killers of former Communist party (Marxist) leader TP Chandrashekeran who was brutally hacked to death in May 2012 for defecting and forming a new party called the Revolutionary Marxist Party. One of the key accused in the case, Manoj Kirmani wasarrested in June 2012 and has been in jail, facing trial ever since. There were other accused in the jail with him as well – including Sunil Kumar (Kodi Suni) and Mohammed Shafi. All of them were leading a fairly easy life in jail, the photos suggest.
From what is being known now, all of them who were housed in the Kozhikode District Jail had free and unrestricted access to smartphones. Using these phones, they made more than 800 calls to the outside world – allegedly to influence the witnesses in the ongoing trial. Now they didn’t stop there. The trio freely uploaded photos of themselves enjoying their stay inside the District Jail. On one of the photos, one of their friend even comments” Is Facebook allowed in Jail?”.
It is unsure at this moment if these people had any idea about Facebook’s privacy options or they were so unperturbed by the kind of support police officials gave them that they simply did not care.
Anyway, this has posed serious questions on the conduct of jail officials at Kozhikode District Jail. While these people are yet to be pronounced guilty, it is evident that these people had significant political support. How else can one expect people to use Facebook from smartphones from within Jail premises without the jail authorities’ knowledge?
This might also show total ignorance of Facebook’s privacy options. All photos posted by these people have their visibility set to public. It was therefore very easy for anyone to see them. They might be removed or deleted soon, however. We do have screenshots, though.
